  10/10/10 Energy Rebuilding Day

Using funds from our EmPOWER Maryland grant we were rewarded by the Maryland Energy Administration (MEA), Rebuilding Together Montgomery County led energy efficiency repairs on 5 homes on Sunday, October 10th, 2010. The event was held on 10/10 due to its significance as a global day of action to combat climate change called Get to Work,” a challenge by 350.org.  There were over 8,000 projects worldwide.

Rebuilding Together Montgomery County worked alongside The Chesapeake Climate Action Network (CCAN), in order to make this event a success. Together with five teams and 30-40 volunteers from various organizations, we performed repairs that will increase the energy efficiency of five homes and will save homeowners several hundred dollars a year on energy bills.

Repairs performed include installing CFL light bulbs, replacing showerheads and faucet aerators with low flow models, replacing thermostats with programmable models, air sealing, weather-stripping doors and windows and more!

We were lucky enough to receive a visit from U.S. Congressman Chris Van Hollen, County Council President Nancy Floreen and County Council member George Leventhal during the event to show their support for our work. The event was a huge success and RTMC wants to thank everyone involved for helping to change the lives of these five homeowners.

Other organizations involved: Chesapeake Climate Action Network, 10/10/10 Global Work Party, 350.org, bethesda green, Clean Currents, Maryland Energy and Sustainability Cooperative, Lowe's, ecobeco, Live Green, Maryland Energy Administration, MOM's Organic Market, Repower at Home, Paint Branch Unitarian Universalist Church, Standard Energy Solutions, Unitarian Universalist Church of Rockville
