Staff Comings & Goings: RTMC wishes a very fond farewell to both Angela Modrick and Helen Springirth, who leave us after several years of volunteer and staff service to pursue new careers. We will certainly miss them and all the ways they assisted our families in need. We are pleased to announce the arrival of Christina Devlin, our new Office Manager, who joined us in July. She will be in charge of the finances, accounting, office administration, and assisting with special events. New Board Member: RTMC is pleased to welcome Lorrie Knight-Major onto our Board of Directors. Lorrie officially joined the Board at our July board retreat, but has been participating with and supporting RTMC since June 2007. She is working to begin a foundation to support veterans as they return home from service and begin to navigate the often confusing systems put in place to support them. We are excited to have her enthusiasm, unique perspective, and business savvy join our Board of Directors. Welcome! Summer Project with HSBC: RTMC was pleased to partner with HSBC to provide needed home repair and energy efficiency measures for a senior homeowner in Silver Spring. Volunteers from multiple branches of HSBC came out to paint, seal windows and doors, make needed electrical repairs, secure handrails and grab bars, and repair the HVAC system.
Get More From Your Vacation: You can support RTMC even as you soak up the rays or vacation with your family. RTMC has a partnership with YTB Travel, a website comparable to expedia or orbitz, but where RTMC receives 40% of the commission on booked travel. By booking your vacations on our site, you are supporting RTMC at no additional cost to yourself! For more information, go to http://www.ytbtravel.com/rebuildingtogether. If you’ve already made your summer plans, don’t forget about Thanksgiving and New Year’s travel plans! New Grants: RTMC is pleased to announce several new grants for FY2009:
A Year in Review: RT national has just released their 2007 Annual Report. You can check out a copy of it by going to their website: http://www.rebuildingtogether.org/content/resource/detail/2860/. RTMC was pleased to see that one of our projects held in partnership with the national office was featured on page 2 and 9 – many thanks to our poster-family, Ryan and Lorrie Knight-Major! Local Friends Become National Partners: NARI (The National Association of the Remodeling Industry) has 58 chapters nationwide, and is a strong partner with RTMC on the local level. NARI’s Core Purpose is to advance and promote the remodeling industry’s professionalism, product and vital public purpose. In part due to our local relationship with the DC chapter of NARI, RT national and NARI have forged an alliance. The partnership will allow both groups to better serve low-income homeowners in urban, suburban and rural areas especially the elderly and disabled. Partnership elements will include local Rebuilding Together affiliate outreach and collaboration with NARI chapters, referral and information sharing, and strategic alignment with other industry organizations. For more about NARI, go to www.nari.org Squeaky Wheel Gets the Grease: WD–40® has been a product of great value to homeowners for the last 50 years and continues to help people recover and rebuild. By partnering with Rebuilding Together on the Last Straw Tour, WD–40 Company will help increase awareness for the organization’s efforts, raise money through the auction of the WD–40 Ultimate Work Truck, and deliver on three of WD–40 Company’s core values – do the right thing, make it better than it is today and create positive lasting memories.
Auditor Needed: RTMC is in immediate need of an auditor to donate (or prepare at a greatly discounted rate) our 2008 audit. If you are aware of anyone who can provide this pro bono service, please contact Susan Hawfield at: shawfield@rebuildingtogethermc.org Volunteer Opportunities: We are looking for a few good men (or women!).
Ways to Give: RTMC thanks you for all the ways you participate in our program!
