Bringing volunteers and communities together to improve the lives of low-income homeowners.

Without RTMC, one woman does not know what she would have done. “I have no idea, other than to survive the way I was,” she remarked.

Instead, the efforts of Rebuilding Together volunteers gave her a safe, affordable, and comfortable home. For her, the experience represented “a dream come true.

To own a home and then not be able to take care of it has been a disappointment. You dream of being a homeowner; that was one of my dreams. It was a house, but [Rebuilding Together has] made it more of a home. It has made me very, very happy.”

As the holidays approach, it is traditional to look back and reflect on the changes and challenges of the past year, and look forward to starting fresh. We gather with friends and family, and enjoy the small comforts of home.

Across town, or perhaps just across the street, there are families who are not so fortunate. Circumstances such as a sudden change in income, chronic or catastrophic illness, or simply the lack of resources have them struggling to meet basic needs. When they reflect on their year, they see the leaking roof that was a result of the winds from Hurricane Irene. They see an oven with only one burner working. They see a basement that they are afraid to enter due to the steep and dangerous stairs. They see the piles of blankets used to keep them warm, as the furnace stopped working months ago. When they look to the future, they know that they simply can’t afford to make the repairs needed to keep them safe and healthy in their homes. They worry for the future of their family, and the place they call home.

RTMC is poised to help families such as these, but we need your help. During difficult economic times such as these, our work is increasingly important. The difference between remaining safely in one’s home and being forced out is often as simple as an accessible entrance, electrical repairs, or basic plumbing fixes. We strive every day to keep our vulnerable neighbors living safely and independently in their homes, and we ask you to join us. Each gift, of every size, has a significant impact on our ability to do this important work. Many thanks for your gift - and for helping our neighbors stay at home in safety this holiday season!
