On July 8th, loan mortgage corporation Freddie Mac sponsored a home in Silver Spring: RTMC would like to extend a warm thank you to the volunteers from the Freddie Mac call center who diligently and enthusiastically made accessibility repairs to the home of a senior husband and wife in Silver Spring.

 

A group from Rockford, Michigan spends a week repairing homes in Montgomery County:  Our Lady of Consolation in Rockford, Michigan worked on five homes during the week of June 22nd-26th. During that time, the group of 10 painted, installed grab bars, fixed door jams, and more, all to ensure the safety of Montgomery County homeowners.

 

RTMC Executive Director graduated from Leadership Montgomery County: RTMC is excited to announce that Susan Hawfield, Executive Director, recently graduated from the year long leadership program. Leadership Montgomery provided Susan with a greater familiarity with the resources and services within the county as well as tools and contacts to access these resources. Leadership Montgomery also assisted RTMC in developing a teambuilding model for our corporate partners.

 

RTMC Board of Directors announces new officers:  As the new fiscal year starts, the RTMC board of Directors initiated new officers. Please join us in extending a warm welcome to the following new officers:

Fall Rebuilding Day is fast approaching.  Join RTMC and help a neighbor in need: RTMC will be making safety, accessibility and preventative maintenance repairs to multiple county homes this fall.  If your congregation, corporation or civic group would like to sponsor a project this October for our Fall Rebuilding Day, please contact RTMC at 301-933-2700.

 

Fundraising Successes

New Grants:  RTMC is pleased to report on new funding opportunities:

  • RTMC received $25,000 from the United Way.
  • RTMC was awarded $25,000 from The Cafritz Foundation.
  • RTMC has partnered with Raffa to do a project this fall for $10,000.
  • RTMC received $10,000 from the Heroes at Home program.
  • RTMC applied for a Bank of America grant – should know in early August.
  • The Spring appeal has raised over $4,500! While we are very pleased with this, our goal is $10,000. Please support us by clicking the donate now button on our website.
  • Our Save the Date postcards for the October Golf Classic Tournament have been mailed. If you would like to participate in this year’s Golf Classic Tournament, please contact Lee Berkeley Shaw at lshaw@rebuildingtogethermc.org or 301-933-2700 for more information.

Getting Involved

 

Volunteer Opportunities:  We are looking for a few good men (or women!).

  • Ongoing – administrative work in the RTMC office including filing, database entry, etc. – contact Kathy Thrower at kthrower@rebuildingtogethermc.org
  • On-going -Volunteer willing to organize donated paint supplies in our Gaithersburg warehouse.  Please contact Kathy Thrower at kthrower@rebuildingtogethermc.org
  • On-going -RTMC is looking for volunteers interested in on-going service to the organization who would be willing to attend trainings in one of several areas.  These represent frequently required services needed by our homeowners and would allow us to deliver services in a timelier manner throughout the year. Painting Crew – this includes interior and exterior painting and deck staining/powerwashing

 

Home Mods Squad – Many of our senior and disabled homeowners require grab bars and railings to be installed in their homes to prevent falls and keep them safe.

 

De-cluttering Crew – We occasionally have homeowners who need help clearing spaces in their home before other repairs are done.

 

The St Rose Furniture ministry is providing gently used furniture to families in need. Since recently re-opening, requests for furniture have far outpaced donations, especially for beds and dressers.
