We've raised $1,875 in support of the Major Family's big run! Scroll down to make a donation in honor of this incredible family, and in support of Rebuilding Together!

Lorrie, Michael, Ryan, Milan, and Courtney are participating in the

2011 Baltimore Marathon

on October 15, 2011.

They are out there to show their support of Rebuilding Together Montgomery County, and we hope you will consider cheering them on by lending your support as well.

Why Rebuilding Together Montgomery County?

When Ryan was injured in Iraq in 2006, he spent nearly a year in hospitals. However, even once he was medically able to return, there was no way to get him safely into the home. Lorrie would have to wait until Michael could come home on weekends from college, so that he could help carry Ryan up a flight of stairs into the house, as their home wasn't accessible. Lorrie contacted Rebuilding Together and together, we made a plan to get Ryan home for good!

With Lorrie driving the effort, Ryan offering input, and Michael, Milan, Leah, and dozens of others offering support in countless ways, RTMC and partnering companies installed an elevator from the garage to the main floor of the home and converted a den on that level into a fully accessible bedroom, bathroom, and deck for Ryan.

With the renovations complete by the summer of 2007, Ryan could come and go as he pleased and re-engage with his family on a daily basis. Having Ryan home made the family complete, and Ryan's strength and determination have truly inspired us all.

In April 2008, Lorrie, Michael, Ryan, and Milan all came out to volunteer on another veternan's home - this time for a WWII veteran who was also instrumental in advocating for civil rights in our county. Lorrie has joined our Board of Directors, and continues to give tirelessly to our organization with her passion and dedication to veterans' services.

 Why the Baltimore Marathon?

Over the years, the Major family has participated in many races throughout the county and state. Lorrie ran the Inaugural Baltimore Marathon in 2001 and her sons were there to support her with bananas and poptarts along the course. Ryan has wheeled the Boston Marathon, New York Marathon, Army 10-miler, and Disney Half-Marathon. They have not run together since the New Orleans Crescent City Classic in 2002.

This year, they will all participate once again. Ryan will be wheeling the entire course, and Lorrie, Michael, Milan, and Michael's girlfirend Courtney will also run portions of the race.

How can I support their run?

The Majors selected Rebuilding Together as their charity of choice in thanks for the work done on their home, and their faith in our abilities to help other families in need of work to make their homes safe, warm, and accessible.

The work done for the Major family is significant - and it was the first time RTMC took on a project of that size and scale. Since then, however, RTMC has had numerous opportunities to take on big projects, and bolstered by the success of our work on Lorrie's home, RTMC has proudly risen to the challenge. Their trust in our work has enabled RTMC to grow in leaps and bounds.

However, not all needs are grand in scale. Sometimes, it's the little things that make a difference: grab bars in the bathroom for a frail senior, fixing a leaking pipe before in creates a larger issue, or repairing a furnace that is leaking carbon monoxide.

Your support of RTMC, though a donation made in honor of The Majors and their efforts on October 15, 2011 at the Baltimore Marathon, would help RTMC make all this happen for the families in need around our county.
