Recipient: One of RTMC’s 2009 Rebuilding Day recipients is Mr. Zeigler, a World War II veteran, civil rights activist and community leader. Mr. Zeigler is an energetic 90 year old man who, with his unwavering devotion to his community coupled with his fervent patriotism, helped pave the way for many Montgomery County residents. Upon his return from WWII, Mr. Zeigler became a community activist, affecting change on the local and federal level. Mr. Zeigler’s efforts have not gone unnoticed; he has received both the Humanitarian Award from the Montgomery County Human Rights Commission and the Visionary Elder Award from Howard University in 2006. In that same year, he was inducted into the Montgomery County Civil Rights Hall of Fame. This activist and soldier has dedicated his life to helping others. We are proud that his community is now returning the favor.
Mr. Zeigler has lived in his home for approximately 60 years. His age prevents needed maintenance and income prevents major structural repairs. Of late, Mr. Zeigler has been using a neighbor’s bathroom since his plumbing does not work. RTMC, in partnership with DG Liu Contracting, Inc, Sandy Spring Bank, Sears Holdings, TW Perry, Reico Kitchen and Bath, At Your Door Floor Store, Bayard Sales Corps, Lennox and Parrish Services have begun repairing the home of Mr. Zeigler. His home will receive a new and functioning kitchen and accessible bathroom. Lennox has donated a new and more efficient HVAC system. Companies such as Ginalick Heating and Air Conditioning, Master Plumbing, Ferguson Enterprises Inc., and Kohl Building Supply should also be recognized for their support of this project. Truly, the work of RTMC is a community effort.
