Sustaining our Neighborhoods and Preserving Homeownership: A Local Brick Supply Company Helps a Senior Remain in Her Home

Potomac Valley Brick repaired the home of a 79 year old senior in Rockville on National Rebuilding Day

Potomac Valley Brick (PVB) has been a committed and enthusiastic supporter of projects during National Rebuilding Day for several years. With their donation of a Nissan truck to Rebuilding Together Montgomery County last year, we can now efficiently haul larger appliances and supplies to different projects.

On April 25th, 2009, PVB volunteers gathered to rehabilitate the home of 79 year old Ms. M of Rockville, who has resided in her home for over 25 years. Due to her age, Ms. M has been unable to make needed preventative maintenance and home safety repairs to her home. In order to ensure that Ms. Moore is able to remain living safely and independently in her home, PVB took on the responsibility of making the many needed repairs. The group donated $200 worth of materials for some accessibility and safety modifications, including replacing a new cement sidewalk, French drain and repairing rail steps leading from the home to the sidewalk. In the interior, volunteers installed grab bars and hand railings to assist with her mobility. In addition, for aesthetic purposes, volunteers painted the kitchen for Ms. M.

RTMC would like to thank Potomac Valley Brick for their dedicated service to our organization; without volunteer and sponsor groups such as PVB, families like Ms. M would not be able to remain in their own homes. Assisting those who do not have the resources to remain in their homes is a positive and effective solution to preserving homeownership and keeping our communities engaged!

If your company, faith based community or civic organization would like be involved with Rebuilding Together Montgomery County and assist those in need, please contact lshaw@rebuildingtogethermc.org or 301-933-2700
