Temple Beth Ami/Shaare Torah - April 2010 | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

Recipient: Ms. T has lived with her daughter in their Kensington home for 10 years. She has also taken in her sister who was displaced by Hurricane Katrina. Tasks: The most pressing matter in Ms. T's home was the mold that was growing in the perpetually damp laundry room. Mold remediation specialists were called in to remove the mold damaged materials and treat the existing structure. Professional roofers repaired and replaced half of the leaking roof that had caused the water damage and mold in the home. Volunteers from the Temple Beth Ami and Shaare Torah congregations worked over several weekends to make other much needed repairs. They dug a trench and installed a drain near the base of Ms. T's home to move water away from the house. Between the roof repairs and the trench drain, water damage should no longer be a problem for Ms. T and her family! The team of volunteers also addressed plumbing issues, including installing a new garbage disposal and new lavatories. They replaced drafty windows, weatherstripped the exterior doors, and installed a storm door. They repaired crumbling concrete steps on the front walk, replaced damaged flooring in the master bathroom, and installed smoke and carbon dioxide detectors. All the volunteers worked hard to help keep Ms. T and her family warm, safe, and dry! *Some of the photographs in this slide show were taken by Event Photograper Ross Kruglak - www.rosseventphoto.com
