OUR MISSION

Bringing volunteers and communities together to improve the homes and lives of low-income homeowners.

GREEN TIP OF THE MONTH

Summer's coming. Can you feel it? Those glorious days of sweltering heat and melting popsicles  (and sticky hands). There are few things more refreshing in the summertime than stepping into your wonderfully cool home. Did you know that of the $2,200 the average household spends on energy each year, half goes to heating and cooling? Using a programmable thermostat can help keep these costs down.  Chances are, between parents at work and kids in school, your home sits empty for a portion of the day...the hottest portion of the day. Consider using your programmable thermostat to turn down the air-conditioner while you are gone and kick back in an hour before you come home. To learn more about saving energy with programmable thermostats click here. If you don't have a programmable thermostat, click here to find which one would work best for you.

WAYS TO SUPPORT RTMC

Are you interested in helping out on Spring Rebuilding Day but would prefer not to lift a hammer? We have 30 sponsor groups devoting their Saturday to the repair of 30 homes for low-income homeowners around the county...and they tend to get hungry around noon. Consider preparing or donating lunch for one  group of volunteers. To learn more, please call the RTMC office or contact Lane Van Buren.

Safeway Partnership Launches with RTMC Project

Safeway Inc. and the Safeway Foundation launched a national partnership with Rebuilding Together by renovating 10 homes and nonprofit facilities to help people with disabilities across the country live safely and independently.

Montgomery County was selected as one of the ten locations to host a partnership launch project. On April 8, 2010, employees from Safeway stores around the county came together to repair the home of a local senior with Parkinson's disease. The volunteers installed 2 comfort-height toilets, cleaned and repaired plumbing leaks in 2 bathrooms, removed yard debris that caused a code violation, painted trim around the roof, and removed torn carpeting that was a trip hazard. Through the partnership with Safeway, Rebuilding Together Montgomery County was also able to recruit Bartlett Roofing & Sheet Metal to replace the homeowners failing roof.

The Rebuilding Together partnership is a perfect fit for Safeway and The Safeway Foundation, the company's philanthropic arm, which focus one of their major pillars of giving on helping people with disabilities. Each April and August Safeway conducts companywide fundraisers and awareness-raising campaigns to support organizations that assist persons with physical and developmental disabilities.
