Sidewalk before and after Rebuilding Together
* Montgomery County is a nonprofit volunteer organization dedicated to helping elderly and/or disabled low-income homeowners, and families with children through home renovation and repair. Our goal is to keep people living in warmth, safety, and independence, while helping to build better communities in Montgomery County. Many of our neighbors have worked all their lives and have been physically and financially able to maintain their homes in good condition. Now due to illness, the loss of a spouse, aging, and/or economic hardships, they are unable do the repair work themselves and their homes deteriorate or become unsafe.

Please contact us for more information about this truly amazing program.

Rebuilding Together has developed other service programs for our community members.
Take a look!

 Handyman Program

The Handyman Program helps elderly and/or disabled low income homeowners remain safe and secure in their homes by performing minor home repair and maintenance they cannot perform themselves. This service is FREE. Individuals and families accepted into the program must complete an application and provide verification of income and home ownership. The Handyman Program works in partnership with the RSVP (Retired Senior Volunteer Program) of the Montgomery County Volunteer Center. Contact us for more info.

 LINK Program

Through the LINK Program, staff and volunteers evaluate the health and social service needs of each Rebuilding Together applicant. After this assessment, Rebuilding Together "LINKS" the applicant to health and human service providers throughout Montgomery County to ensure that the homeowner is able to live in his home with increased self sufficiency. Contact us for more information.

 Community Revitalization

In 2001, the Board of Directors officially supported the growth of the organization by making a commitment to focus volunteer home repair efforts on the first ever Community Rehabilitation project. Every year, Rebuilding Together selects a specific neighborhood that has been identified as one of the county’s revitalization areas and completes home repairs to approximately 10-15 homes. In addition, volunteers help clean up streets and parks within the identified neighborhood. Each homeowners/civic association is required to participate in order to have their neighborhood selected. Congregations and business from the targeted neighborhood are solicited for donations of supplies, materials and labor. Please contact us for more information.

 Home Modification Program

Home modification and repairs have emerged as a priority service project from the National organization because this type of service delivery is essential to help the elderly and disabled age in place. Home Modification and repair includes adaptations to homes that can make it easier and safer to carry out daily living activities such as bathing, cooking, and climbing stairs. In addition, alterations to the physical structure of the home improve the home's overall safety and condition.

Research suggests that one-third to one-half of home accidents can be prevented by modification and repair. Often home modification and repair can allow people to remain in their homes longer. Older people tend to live in older homes that often need repairs and modifications. Over 60% of older persons live in homes more than 20 years old. Home modification and repair can accommodate lifestyle changes and increase comfort.
