Safe and Healthy Homes

Safe and Healthy Homes is RTMC's ongoing program dedicated to providing free critical home repairs and accessibility modifications to homeowners in need. By providing repairs and modifications in underserved communities, we address the connection between health and housing and help to preserve the existing affordable housing stock across Montgomery County. We work in partnership with local contractors and skilled trades volunteers to serve more than 150 homeowners every year through our Safe and Healthy Homes program, ensuring that homeowners receive the help they need year-round. This program supports the ability of homeowners to age-in-place safely and independently, and reduces the hazards and stress associated with deferred maintenance and ongoing repair issues in the home. Our Safe and Healthy Housing program work is guided by the 25 Health and Safety Housing Priorities that we strive to achieve for our homeowners. Among these, key elements include:

*Home modifications that address the safety and quality of life for residents

*Falls reduction interventions that minimize the risk of falls in the home

*Fire prevention strategies that reduce the risk of home fires

Home Accessibility Rehabilitation Program (HARP)

Rebuilding Together Montgomery County is partnering with the Montgomery County Department of Housing and Community Affairs in their Home Accessibilty Rehabilitation Program (HARP). The goal of the program is to make homes more accessible, visitable, and livable for people with disabilities or people over the age of 65. Home improvements can include no-step entrances, walk or roll-in showers, wheelchair accomodated kitchens, door widening, stairlifts, and more! Interested homeowners may apply here.

National Rebuilding Day

National Rebuilding Day (NRD) is RTMC's flagship event held annually in April. During this weekend event, teams of volunteers from companies, organizations and houses of worship come together to provide critical home repairs for vulnerable neighbors across Montgomery County. By partnering in our 'neighbors helping neighbors' approach, volunteers eliminate health and safety hazards and ensure that our neighbors in need are able to continue living safely and independently in their homes. She Builds with ABC of Metro Washington

Each year in partnership with ABC of Metro Washington's Women Building Washington committee, RTMC brings together women in the construction community to support other women in need. These projects by women, for women, and with women provide critical repairs for women-headed households and women-focused community spaces, empowering women to maintain safe and healthy homes, to make a difference in their communities, and to build a supportive community network. Learn more about our upcoming She Builds with ABC of Metro Washington project here.

She Builds

In addition to our She Builds work with ABC Metro Washington, RTMC also organizes a She Builds project that is open to all female-identified volunteers in the community. These projects by women, for women, and with women provide critical repairs for women-headed households and women-focused community spaces, empowering women to maintain safe and healthy homes, to make a difference in their communities, and to build a supportive community network. Learn more about our upcoming community-based She Builds project here.

Community Revitalization Partnership

Through our community Revitalization Partnership Program, RTMC provides repair services for non-profit facilites in Montgomery County. We engage community-based organizations and leaders as partners, aligning our work with other non-profit service providers to improve the health and safety of entire neighborhoods. Throughout the year, RTMC partners with 2-4 non-profits that are also working to support our community. Learn more about applying for Community Revitalization Partnership services here
